Things to do in Cornwall

Hit the beach!! There is nothing quite like earning your hearty appetite after a spending the day at the beach. Every child and ‘Big Kid’ should experience the wonders of crabbing, rock pooling and body boarding. Remember to pack your wet suits – we’ll supply the buckets, spades and fishing nets!

Charlestown Beach
With Charlestown Beach just a stone’s throw from your cottage, if you're looking for a week as a beach bum you’ve found it!  Outside the village there are safe beaches nearby at Goran Haven, Porthpean, Duporth and Polkerris.


If you want to catch a wave or try some surfing lessons, the large open beaches on the North Coast are a 30 minute drive away. There are plenty of specialist companies offering individual or group surf lessons and board hire – just ask if you’d like a recommendation.

 

Cycling

If you’re bringing your bikes to Cornwall, it probably means you’re serious about cycling because Cornish hills are not for the faint hearted. If so, you’ll find numerous mountain biking tracks and the beautiful Camel trail to keep you pedalling hard. For less serious cyclists, there are level trails to try where you can hire bikes for a few hours at Pentewan, Wadebridge and Padstow. The Camel Trail is mostly flat and links Wadebridge and Padstow. Also Clay Trails which includes Pentewan, Simply Time in Cornwall is pleased to offer bike storage for our guests so you can securely lock your bikes away each evening after a long day in the saddle.

 

Walking

Coastal PathCornwall offers great variety for walkers and the scope to have a very different walk each day of your stay. From your cottage you will be able to step out of your doorstep straight onto the South West Coastal Path and head east towards Carlyon Bay or west to Blackhead and onto Chapel Point. Other options include the dramatic landscapes of Bodmin Moor, the ancient Saints Way that cuts right across the county and pretty trails through the local woods. With so many well marked paths, there is something to both entice beginners to put on their walking boots and challenge the most serious of hikers.

 

Golf

Golf courses in Cornwall usually come complete with a sea view. There are numerous golf clubs around the county offering courses to suit any ability. The closest is the Carlyon Bay Golf Course just a 10 minute drive from Charlestown.

 

Sailing

FishingWith a fantastic coastline and numerous safe harbours, Cornwall is perfect for sailing. From your cottage you will be able to see yachts and dinghies racing out of the nearby sailing clubs in Fowey, Porthpean and Pentewan or cruising down the coast towards Falmouth. If you want to get out on the water yourself, there are dinghy sailing lessons available in Fowey harbour or Polkerris beach, During the summer months, it is also possible have the very special experience of sailing from Charlestown on one of the local tall ships.
